Oh, the wonder of taking a trip down memory lane…How many of you remember making hollyhock dolls as a child? Our residents and staff at Charles Ford Retirement Communities do! It’s a timeless craft that’s been enjoyed from generation to generation.
In fact, Glenda began making them when she was 7 years old with her grandmother and still enjoys making them today! If you’ve never made one before, spend some time with a loved one this afternoon and create your own.
Here’s how:
- Find a fully opened hollyhock blossom, and turn it upside down to form the skirt.
- Thread a toothpick through the flower, adding as many blossoms as you wish, with the edges at the bottom.
- Find a second blossom or flower bud for the doll’s body, leaving a quarter of an inch at the top of the toothpick to hold the doll’s head in place.
- Add a little flair by finding different colored flowers and creating a hat.
