Who’s Rescuing Who? Charles Ford Retirement Communities Fostering 2 Cats To Show The Effectiveness Of Pet Therapy With Seniors

The therapeutic value of Pet Therapy is something we feel strongly about, and that is why we have made the decision to foster two senior cats from the Posey County Humane Society. The two cats we are bringing home are male litter-mates named Tigger and Jesse.

The Charles Ford Retirement Communities Leadership team has been considering this for quite some time for our residents, and we are so happy we’ve made the decision to welcome these two gentle cats as fosters. And our residents… they’re excited as well! There’s something about having a furry friend around that lightens and brightens the mood.

If you follow us, you may have recently seen our blog on Pet Therapy and how effective it can be in helping your loved ones. If you haven’t had the opportunity to read it, check out the blog here to learn more about the social, physical and emotional benefits pet therapy could provide your loved one.

For those who are new to this concept and wondering what Pet Therapy is all about, it’s common for seniors to suffer from depression, likely as a result of them not being as active as they once were, loneliness or isolation, due to family and friends not being able to visit regularly or their own activity levels decreasing. Pet therapy has been known to bring seniors outside their comfort zone, making them happier overall and increasing their communication. Studies have also shown that this type of interaction can slow the aging process, provide better quality of life for seniors and help maintain a healthy lifestyle. The benefits of a furry companion can be life changing!

If you’d like to learn more about our new pet therapy initiative, stop by our campus to visit the newest members of the Charles Ford Retirement Communities family. Rescuing pets and giving them a second chance is something we hold near and dear to our hearts — Although, we’d like to think Tigger and Jesse just might be rescuing us as well.
